Pickle Time
Last couple of days has been fun. We pickled a bunch of the cucumbers we grew this year. Bread and butter pickles and some cinnamon/spice pickles that are to die for :) It was a lot of fun actually doing it. Definitely a project that goes better as a team in the Kitchen.

Time to start
Well, I created this blog around Jan 14 but have been slack and not posted anything... Actually I forgot I set it up till I rediscovered it a couple of weeks ago so since it is too hot here in Central NC to do anything in the garden I decided today is as good a time as any to get started.
A bit about Ravenwood Homestead. We have for the last several years been growing vegetables as organically as we can in raised beds in our back yard. We live on 1/3 of an acre and have suprised ourselves sometimes with how much actually comes out of the garden, and so far this year we are surpassing the previous years. but for us it is about more than the garden, it is about trying to make our home as sustainable as we can. so furure posts will also be about things like our water catchment system, the composting system we are using, and if I decide to construct one this year a Solar furnace.. I built a small one 2 years ago that for 6 hours of the day pumped 190 degree air into the house even in below freezing temperatures so I have been pondering the construction of a larger one sometime in the fall. So this blog will most likely not be just about gardening but about all of the things we are experimenting with to try and make our lives more sustainable and leave a smaller footprint on this earth we call our home.
About me, I am a computer and gardening geek who is always amazed at how well those two things seem to mesh in my life. I am NOT in any way a brilliant writer and this is going to be an interesting course for me to take but I would like to get some of the things in my head, and that I see and experience in the garden every day, out into the world. If it helps someone else to see when I mess up so they don't make the same mistakes I occasionally make then I will consider this time well spent.
I will also occasionally post pictures and or videos when I get this platform figured out.. :)
Welcome to Ravenwood Homestead
